Dewey classification:

Dewey Decimal Classification is a universal method of organizing knowledge.  He divides all knowledge into 10 major categories and these ten categories have 100 sub categories and these sub categories have further sub categories and it can be further sub divided. So a Dewey classification – 599.2 represents the major category science (500), sub category Zoology (599) and a sub- sub category of primates. (599.2)

The Dewey Decimal Classification is a very practical tool, regularly used for the arrangement of books in libraries. It can be also a precious aid for research using data banks, notably when we want to cover the various aspects of a subject or an  area (for example, all which concerns the oriental philosophies, the section 181.)
