School rules Article 1 The present school rules are an agreement made between the members of the school community of the École Française de Delhi. The management and the staff undertake to give the students the necessary means for achieving success in their studies through a real knowledge of the French language and civilization. They have been approved by the School Council and render all other earlier provisions null and void. Any changes in these rules must be endorsed by the School Council. Article 2 These rules shall be communicated to the families of the students. The parents or guardians must acknowledge receipt of the same. The students and parents of the École Française are expected to follow these school rules and to take the responsibility for any consequences of non-compliance of these rules.
School Article 3 The École Française de Delhi is a private French educational institute officially recognized by the Agency for Teaching French in Foreign Countries (A.E.F.E). It functions according to the Agency’s own rules of recruitment, management and orientation.
Article 4 As far as teaching is concerned, it follows the programmes and official instructions of the French National Education. It prepares the students such that they are able to continue their studies in educational institutions in France or those which are part of the French network in foreign countries. It consists of Kindergarten, Elementary, Lower Secondary and higher secondary. Article 5 The public examinations prepared for under the supervision of the Rennes Educational district (Academy) are the Brevet des Colleges (equivalent to class X exams in India) and the Baccalaureate (equivalent to class XII exams in India).
Councils Article 6 The management of the École Française de Delhi is determined by the functioning of a certain number of councils which act as consultation or decision making bodies. • MANAGEMENT COUNCIL ON FINANCIAL MATTERS • SCHOOL COUNCIL ON MATTERS OF SCHOOL MANAGEMENT AND SCHOOL LIFE • ADMINISTRATION COUNCIL FOR COMMUNICATION AND ORIENTATION The functions and responsibilities of the School Principal and that of each of these bodies are defined in the school constitution.
Enrolment – re-enrolment Article 7 The basic requirements for admission to the École Française de Delhi are as follows: Enrolment: Then to the francophone children who have a transfer certificate from the institute where they were studying. To the foreign students who started their schooling in a French institution and have a transfer certificate from that institution. And to any other child if any more seats are available. In this case, an interview will take place before enrolment. Any child who has not attended compulsory French school due to his nationality which would cause the student to lag behind by more than two years cannot be enrolled. The child must have been given all the vaccinations compulsory in French schools at the time of enrolment (BCG and DPT.) The child must be toilet trained for admission to the Kindergarten. The final enrolment is subject to the submission of the duly filled medical form.
Article 8 Enrolment to Kindergarten takes place as follows: Lower KG: - Only children who have already attended lower KG in a French educational institution- in France or abroad- can be admitted during the school year as per availability of seats Middle Section: - The student must turn 4 years old during the calendar year of the reopening of the school. Upper KG: - The student must turn 5 years old during the calendar year of the reopening of the school.
Article 9 The school fees consist of: First enrolment fees Tuition fees
Article 10 School fees are to be paid on a yearly basis and in advance (please refer to the payment procedures which are currently in force). Every term for which fees have not been paid will result in the student being suspended the following term. Certificates or mark sheets will not be issued to a student whose family owes dues to the École Française de Delhi.
Article 11 Parents of French students can apply for a scholarship for their children given by the French Government. They must give an application for the same to the French Consulate (notice will be displayed).
School schedules Article 12 The academic year is divided into terms. Dates for different work patterns are fixed by the School Council as per the Principal’s recommendations. Classes are held as per the following timings: KINDERGARTEN: Monday/Tuesday/Thursday from 8:15 am to 3:30 pm + ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Wednesday and Friday from 8:15 am to 12:15 pm SECONDARY SCHOOL: Monday/Tuesday/Thursday from 8:15 am to 1:15 pm + Wednesday/Friday from 8:15 am to 1:15 pm HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL: Monday/Tuesday/Thursday from 8:15am -1:15 pm + 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm Wednesday/Friday from 8:15am to 1:15 pm If required, a few assignments can be held on Saturday morning. For Secondary level classes, a few classes could go on until 5:30 pm.
Article 13 Only those students who have classes for optional subjects or have signed up for various groups of extracurricular activities or for canteen work are authorized to stay back in school beyond the timings mentioned in the preceding article.
Article 14 Attendance in all the classes is compulsory. All the students are expected to respect class attendance schedules and to follow the disciplinary rules of the institution.
Article 15 Only students who have submitted a medical certificate shall be exempted from physical education classes. The management reserves the right to get a second medical opinion by a doctor. Exemption from Physical education exempts the student from attending classes. All the same, the teacher can evaluate the child by way of a written assignment based on course matter specified in advance.
Movement of people Article 16 For security reasons, entry of outsiders into the school premises is regulated by a screening inspection done in the cabin at the school entry gate. Visitors are not allowed inside without appointment. Parents are not allowed to accompany their children into the school premises except in the kindergarten. They must drop them and pick them up at the yard at the school entry gate. Parents can meet the Principal or the teachers at the timings indicated by them and by appointment only.
Article 17 Kindergarten students are to be received in the classroom or from 8:05 to 8:15am. The child can be picked up only by a person who has been introduced by the parents to the teacher and must possess the valid EFD badge.
Article 18 After the timings specified in the present rules all the students must obtain an entry ticket issued by the concerned employee. Late arrivals shall be counted and too many late arrivals in a month shall result in a disciplinary action.
Article 19 Parents are expected to drop and pick up their children at normal entry and exit timings as given below:
Academic organization Article 20 French is the medium of instruction. Spanish and German are offered as second languages from 8th Grade (4ème) onwards. Classes for French as a foreign language are offered to non- francophone students if required.
Article 21 Each student must have a separate homework diary in which homework and lessons to be learnt shall be noted down. In addition, every teacher notes down in the class register, the themes and assignments completed.
Class Councils Article 22 In elementary school, the Class Councils comprise of teachers, assistants and the School Principal. CYCLE 1: LOWER KG AND MIDDLE SECTION CYCLE 2: UPPER KG / CP / CE1 CYCLE 3: CE2 / CM1 / CM2 The Class Council meeting for each schedule is held at least once every term. It ensures that academic progress of each student for the concerned schedule is monitored closely.
Article 23 Each class Council meeting produces individual mark sheets which contain marks obtained by the student in each subject. At the end of the third term, this mark sheet indicates whether the student has passed or failed. Each council is divided into two parts: Finally, the teachers, a representative elected by the parents of the class students, student representatives and the senior education counselors exchange information pertaining to the class and discuss the case of students with problems.
Article 24 All the members of various Councils are expected to show reserve as regards the discussions held and decisions taken by the Council. Any indiscretion on the part of the teachers or administrative staff is considered a breach of professional duties by the concerned persons. The same rules apply to parents of students and student representatives. It is however the duty of the parent representative to inform and sensitize the parents of a child with problems in order to find the best way to help that student.
Article 25 An extraordinary meeting of the Class Council can be held at the request of one of its members, subject to approval by the Principal who can invite parents of all or some students of the class to attend the meeting.
Article 26 The Class council meeting held at the end of the year takes the decision of promoting, failing or reorienting the child. This decision must be in compliance with the instructions given in the Official Bulletin of the National Education (B.O.E.N.). However, the parents can appeal against the decision if they deem it necessary.
Student representation Article 27 Students of each class choose 2 representatives who sit at the Class Council, who can be consulted and who can express themselves freely. The class representatives elect their representatives for the School Council.
School life Article 28 It is the responsibility of each of the staff members to ensure an environment suitable for the smooth functioning of the school and to see that the discipline is maintained.
Article 29 Each member of the school community must respect the other partners. Anything liable to cause an injury by way of words, actions or an attempted action and particularly the following is considered as an offence committed against the other: Insults, assaults, gestures, attitudes or allusions to religion, race or nationality. Carrying or using drugs, weapons, alcohol or tobacco or documents causing breach of ethics and morality, or objects which can have a negative effect on the working environment in the classes. Theft, destruction or damage to school property.
Article 30 Any violation of these school rules can result in a disciplinary action. The cost of any repair work or replacement following damage shall be borne by the parents of the student concerned. In case of a serious offence, the case shall be submitted to the School Disciplinary committee which shall decide upon the penalty.
Article 31 Depending on the seriousness of the offence committed, the disciplinary actions can be: An oral warning A written warning A detention Meeting with the family of the student Summoning the student in front of the Disciplinary committee.
Article 32 In case of detention, the work prescribed be within the framework of the student’s school work and shall be corrected and noted in the same way as other assignments.
Article 33 Absence of a student at a detention without a valid excuse as per the administration shall result in a disciplinary action.
School Insurance Article 34 We remind you mobile phones are strictly not allowed inside the school premises (school will not be responsible for any kind of theft or lost) and should be switched off during the classes and at break timings. Since most of the mobile phones has camera feature; it can affect one’s privacy. In this regard the article 29 of the school rule is applicable.
Article 35
Article 36 All the students are insured against accidents within the school premises at the time of enrolment or re-enrolment. The parents are strongly advised to subscribe to an additional individual insurance.
Article 37 In case of accident, the student shall be taken to the hospital center indicated by the parents in the medical form. In case of an emergency, the student could be evacuated straight away without waiting for authorization from the parents who shall be informed immediately.
Article 38 The School shall not be responsible for any thefts which might take place within the school premises. The parents are advised to ensure that their child does not carry any valuable object or large sums of money. |
